According to Ned Davis from NJECC, Marc Prensky was taken to St. Joe's Hospital in Patterson, NJ and he did not have a stroke. It was a combination of an infection, the medication he was taking and a very, very high level of blood sugar cauding a diabetic-like problem. None of this is life threatening. He remains hospitalized.
Follow up #2 (3-18-08 10:00pm EST)
The was an email sent out by Ned Davis to all conference attendees:
Dear Conference Attendees,
Those of you who were at the opening ceremonies of our NJECC Computer Conference witnessed a very disturbing scene. Our keynote speaker, Marc Prensky, began his speech with great difficulty. As he tried to speak, it became clear that something was wrong; he was in great physical distress. Unable to continue, we adjourned the keynote address to attend to his needs. We had to call for medical attention who took him to nearby St Joseph's Hospital. The paramedics believed that he was having a stroke. I am relieved to report; it was not a stroke but complications from an infection, medication he was taking and a very high blood sugar level.
He called me today feely much better and apologized for what occurred. I told him that all of us were relieved this condition was not life threatening and we wished him a speedy recovery. He promised to be back to visit NJECC and MSU and that we could look forward to the Marc Prensky who is known for his energy, enthusiasm and knowledge of the Digital Native.
I want to thank all of you for being so kind and understanding during what was a very difficult situation.
Ned Davis
Executive Director, NJECC
